Holographic Will

A handwritten will that is dated and signed by the person making the will. The requirements for a valid holographic will vary from state to state and some states don't recognize them at all.  New York recognizes holographic wills only if written by a military service person while engaged in an armed conflict and then such will becomes invalid one year after the person's discharge from the military. (NY EPTL 3-2.2 - Nuncupative and holographic wills)

Holographic wills are disfavored by courts and should be avoided.
